"We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life."
Here at Hope Church, we celebrate baptism during our weekend services. This involves setting aside time not only to watch people be baptized but also hear the stories, told in their own words, of their coming to faith in Jesus Christ.
Baptism is done through immersion into water which symbolizes the person’s death to their old life and their coming up out of the water represents their new life in Christ. Baptism is a beautiful picture of someone’s journey from death to life and how God’s power is at work within them.
Romans 6:4 says, “We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.”
Baptism at Hope is not a sign of perfection or “arrival” as a Christian. Rather, it is for those who have made the decision to give their lives to Jesus and are in process and moving toward Him. When you give your life to Christ it means asking Him to forgive your sins and lead your life. In light of this, baptism represents a beautiful next step.
